Quality Binding

Perfect Binding

Perfect Binding MachinePerfect binding is the “standard’ adhesive binding method. Adhesive is applied to the spine of a book block, which is then married to a cover. Foldouts, pocket covers, die cutting, foil stamping and embossing are just a few of decoration and design options that can be incorporated into a perfect-bound book.

Riverside Binding uses PUR (polyurethane reactive) adhesive binding Which is stronger and more flexible than standard perfect binding.

The Riverside PUR Perfect Binding Advantage:

  • Otabind Binding
The closest thing to a layflat adhesive binding style. This patented process involves adhering a book block to a paper “crash” liner at the spine. Hot melt adhesive is placed on each side to hold the cover to the book block. This creates a free floating cover that gives it layflat characteristics.
  • Otabind PerfectbindSmyth Sewing
Smyth sewing involves threads sewn between all signatures in a book block, which is then glued to a cover or case. The interwoven threads, in combination with the binding adhesive, create a super-strong bind. That durability makes Smyth sewing ideal for books that will be used heavily for an extended period of time.
  • Notch Binding
  • Books as Thin as 1/16"
